Looking for a large bore tenor trombone that just works? No fuss, no stories. Simply a good and affordable trombone? Then the Rath R400 might be the ticket! Following the most used specs of the Rath R4F custom trombone, the R400 is a more affordable option but with many of the best features of the custom trombone.
Features
-
.547 large bore: The standard for most orchestral players.
-
8.5" yellow brass bell with a yellow brass outer slide and a nickel silver crook for crisp articulation.
-
Open flow rotary valve: A valve with great action and a really open sound down low. I actually had a lot of fun ripping some bass trombone literature on that one (I know - not very mature...)
Includes a Rath mouthpiece and a Rath case.
The Rath 00 Series: Quality Trombones at an Accessible Price
The Rath 00 Series, offers a solid mid-range option for players looking to upgrade from beginner instruments. With a medium .547" bore and Bb/F configuration, it's designed to handle everything from wind band to brass band and orchestral playing without breaking the bank.
About the 00 Series
The 00 Series was created to bridge the gap between student and professional trombones. Designed by Michael Rath but manufactured overseas to keep costs down, these instruments retain key Rath features and quality materials. The lineup includes:
-
R100 (.500" bore) – Lightweight and agile
-
R300 (.525" bore) – Balanced for versatility
-
R400 (.547" bore) – A classic, well made large bore trombone
-
R900 (.562" bore) – Bass trombone with independent valves
While not handcrafted like Rath's UK-made custom models, the 00 Series delivers solid performance for the price.
